The Rehearsal is a genius show and the culmination of all the great shows you chronicle here. I would add Mr. Show as an early precursor, and of course Steve Brule sketches.
Mr. Show was my absolute favorite, so I’m probably biased. They blended a LOT of different styles, including “cringe.” They are the direct precursor to Tim and Eric, and I think Tim Robinson was heavily influenced, evidenced by adding Bob Odenkirk to a sketch. I feel Kids in the Hall follows the SCTV and SNL lineage more than any other, although some of Scott Thompson’s stuff could be considered “cringe.”

I almost included Mr. Show and Kids in the Hall!
